Privacy & GDPR Policy

This Privacy & GDPR Policy explains how the UK Student Community (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information. It sets out how we comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, and describes the choices and rights you have over your own data.

Everything is consent-based — you choose to join

Every student who appears in our community is here entirely by their own choice. You join the UK Student Community by completing our online registration form yourself, of your own free will. We never scrape, copy, harvest or publish anyone’s data from LinkedIn, the internet, or any third party without that person’s knowledge and agreement. If you have not submitted our form and agreed to take part, your information is not added to our community.

What we keep private

Protecting students’ privacy is at the heart of everything we do. When you register, some of the details you share with us are kept strictly private and are never made public. This includes:

  • Your student or educational ID cards
  • Your educational or personal email address
  • Your personal phone number
  • Any other private contact or identity details you provide

This private information is used only so that our team can contact you, verify your registration and manage your membership. It is stored securely and is never displayed on the website, sold, or shared publicly.

What we display publicly — only with your consent

When we add a student to the community, the only information we display publicly is:

  • Your LinkedIn profile photo
  • A link to your LinkedIn profile

Nothing beyond this is published. We show your LinkedIn photo and profile link only because you have chosen to join and agreed to be listed, so that the community and potential opportunities can find you. If you would prefer not to be listed publicly, simply let us know and we will keep you off the public list.

Who we are

The UK Student Community is a free community that helps UK-based students learn practical LinkedIn outreach and sales skills so they can start earning while they study. Our website address is: ukstudentcommunity.co.uk.

The data we collect and why

We only collect personal data that you voluntarily provide when you complete our registration or contact form. We use it to respond to you, to verify and manage your membership, and to display your LinkedIn photo and profile link where you have agreed to be listed. We do not sell your data to anyone.

Lawful basis for processing

We process your personal data on the basis of your consent, which you give when you submit our form and agree to take part in the community. Because our lawful basis is consent, you are free to withdraw that consent at any time.

How long we keep your data

We keep your personal data only for as long as you remain part of the community and for as long as we need it to provide our service. When you ask us to remove your data, we will delete it promptly, unless the law requires us to keep it for a limited period.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, and to ask us to delete it. You may also restrict or object to how we use it, ask for a copy of your data, and withdraw your consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights — including removing your name, LinkedIn photo or profile link from the community — just contact us and we will action your request quickly.

Cookies and analytics

Our website may use cookies to help it work correctly and to understand how visitors use the site. You can set your browser to refuse cookies if you prefer.

Contact us & complaints

If you have any questions about this policy, or you want to access, update or remove your personal data, please get in touch with us through the contact form on our website. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection authority, at ico.org.uk.
